OC Food Truck & Dos Chinos Truck
Oc Food Truck I heard about this place from my co worker Alisha, she mentioned that the burgers/sandwiches they make here are pretty bomb. So being food trucks, I went to their website to see where they will be next! Turned out they were going to be at the Angel Stadium for the RV show. I asked around in the family would was down to go, and it ended up being my girlfriend and my cousin. The thing about food trucks, even if their calendar on their website they will be there at a certain time, don’t go off that…why?…well because it really depends on how their sales are going! If they are almost out of stuff, why would they need to stay at the listed time…so its always best to come early, just to make sure you can get the full menu. When we first arrived at the Angel Stadium, we were lost, basically we were allowed to drive around the whole parking lot, RV’s everywhere. We saw a hint of orange, and we knew that was probably the Oc Food Truck…seriously it was like Wheres Waldo! On a side note I really had a lot of fun driving around the open parking lot! We finally parked, and walking towards the food truck, we also saw two other trucks…I forgot what one was because we didn’t eat there, all I know it had to do something about potatoes. Then there was the Dos Chinos Truck, I wasn’t planning on eating here, but hey they were near each other and why not right? We first made our way to The Oc Food Truck, because that was the reason why we came here. I loved it, being at other food trucks before, and usually there is a good line, but there was probably two people in line. Their truck stood out, being a light but bright orange, with decals on the bottom showing land and water. They had blown up pictures of the food they offer, as well on the left side pictures of what they are currently serving for the day. I noticed that they didn’t have some of the stuff that was on the website or what was on the truck, but getting greeted by one of the drivers, he mentioned that they had all the stuff, but were just sold out! Andreana was so excited for the Chorizo Burger, and I was excited for the Carnivore Fries. So we decided on getting what they were offering! Here are some pictures of the truck:
Here is what we ordered!:
Me:
I got the Mac Daddy! It was pretty good, but out of the three that we all ordered, this was last! Don’t get me wrong it was still pretty amazing. Its pretty much Mac N Cheese, Bacon, and Chicken, there were also tomatoes and onions, but I asked to not have them in it, because well yeah Im not a big fan of them. The bread was grilled okay, the outside of the sandwich was crunchy, but once you got past that part it was soft. Like I said it was a good sandwich, but nothing to special. The mac N cheese, had a lot of cheese which I loved, the bacon added a good amount of salt to each bite, but it also over took the chicken, to the point where I didn’t know if there was chicken, only knew there was chicken, because of its texture. It was something I am glad I got to try, because now I can say I tried a sandwich that had mac N cheese!
Andreana:
My girlfriend got the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Melt, she doesn’t like onions either, when she requested to have them taken out, the cook was like “That’s the best part!” Its funny that I don’t like onions, but ill eat onion rings! So I said if they can put it on the side, which they did(picture on the right), he also added the sauce on the side of it too. First about my girlfriends Cheddar Melt, just looking at it, it was mouth watering! The top of the sandwich was covered on cheese, which made each bite crunchy and cheesy! In the melt was of course bacon, Angus patty, and coleslaw and of course covered in cheese. This sandwich was BOMB! My girlfriend loved it because it was so cheesy, she mentioned that the crunch of the bread, mixed with the juicy-ness from the meat made the sandwich amazing. I agree 100%! The onion strings were amazing as well. Being covered in tempura instead of flour, and really it makes a big difference, it gives a really amazing crunch to the dish! The sauce was a perfect pairing, it had a kick of spice, but complimented the tempura perfectly! The BBQ Bacon Cheddar Melt was second on my list of the three!
Christian:
Christian ended up trying the Dynamite Shrimp Burger, right off the bat as you can see from the picture it looked amazingly delish! Inside the buns was: Tempura Shrimp, Angus Patty, Dynamite Sauce and topped with Papaya Coleslaw. Christian took the first bite, and his reaction was priceless, it was like…Bite…Chew….Chew…and then “Whhooaa”. Thats when I knew this must be bomb, secretly under the table I was busting out some happy feet, waiting for him to say “You wanna try?” When he finally said that, I took it with no hesitation and took a monstrous bite, and trust me the same words came out of my mouth “Whhhoooaa”. The crunch from the tempura shrimp with its seasoning was perfect! Then you get a little wash from the juice of the Angus patty, followed by a right kick from the spice of the dynamite sauce, and then when you think its all over a left kick hits you, but this one is sweet because of the papaya. This was my number one liking out of the three sandwiches from The Oc Food Truck. Each ingredient inside the hamburger bun, complimented each other perfectly! It was amazing, ranging from texture, to different tastes! Money!!!!
I was actually still a little bit hungry, and I finished my Mac Daddy first, so I decided to try the Dos Chinos truck, again this is a food truck, and its designs separated it easily from the OC Food Truck, being purple, and a lot of amazing art work. Dos Chinos is a Latin/Asian grub truck. They served tacos and also burritos. The workers/drivers were really nice, I asked him what were there best three taco’s and he told me which were good. Each taco was either $3.00 or $2.50 Here are some pictures of the Dos Chinos Truck:
The Tacos:
The Garden Grove Taco, this was amazing!!!!!! It was packed with really mouth watering flavor. It was pretty much short rib marinated in mexican/korean bbq sauce, with sour cream lightly poured on top and of course cilantro. This was the only taco that cost $3.00, and I can tell why. The short ribs, had an amazing taste, and was juicy!!! I couldn’t really tell where the Mexican flavors came from besides the cilantro. The meat was cooked perfectly, nice and chewy. The sour cream was a good touch as it complimented the meat pretty well.
The Hollywood Chicken Taco, again another amazing taco! This taco had Thai coconut curry chicken, with tamarind sour cream sauce. Tamarind is a sweet fruit, and you can really taste it in this taco. I really felt as if I was eating at one of my favorite Thai restaurants, you can really taste the coconut in the chicken which I loved! I believe the tamarind helped the taste of what regular sour cream would taste like. Regardless the sour cream mixed with tamarind complimented the curry chicken perfectly. This taco was $2.50, and really as I am typing, I am in deep regret on why I didn’t order some more! It was delish!!!
The Bolsa Taco, this taco actually came last because it took a little bit longer to cook. The moment I picked it up and saw it, the first thing that came to my mind was Sisig(a Filipino dish). This taco had Vietnamese roast pork belly with dos chinos salsa verda. Right off the bat, I knew it would be hard for me to eat it, because well I wasn’t a big fan of Sisig, mainly because of the texture. Me being me I had to take a bite at least, and it was as I expected. Don’t get me wrong it was good, the salsa was a nice kick to your mouth, but again the texture for me gets me all the time. Christian who loves Sisig, ended up finishing the taco, and he said he really liked it. He actually even picked up the remaining bits of meat that was in the plate. Its hard to describe this taco only having one bite of it, but I do remember that the texture has two feelings, one being chewy from the fat, and then crunchy from outside of the meat. This taco was also $2.50, but if you like Sisig, or want to try roasted pork belly, this taco is for you!
Ssp’s Final Thoughts:
It was really fun bringing my girlfriend and cousin to their very first gourmet food truck. Loved the fact they both enjoyed the sandwiches from The OC Food Truck and Dos Chinos Truck. All in all for how much I spent for 3 sandwiches, and 3 tacos was about a total of approx $23. Really if you think about it, at a restaurant that is at least the BBQ Bacon Melt and the Dynamite Shrimp Burger! Getting 6 food dishes for that price, count me in!! Both trucks I will add to my location list, if they are ever near by, and I’m in craving for delicious sandwiches or tacos, I will come to them. If there ever is a wait, both trucks are worth the wait! In my recommendations for both trucks, The OC Food Truck: Dynamite Shrimp Burger…..Dos Chinos Truck: Garden Grove Taco. Hope you all enjoyed the food venture to what started out just one food truck, and ended up being two of them!
