Roscoes!!!!!
Roscoe’s House of Chicken N Waffles, this food venture came into mind when Christian(my cousin) has heard all about Roscoe’s, but has never tried it. So we decided to make this our yelp dinner, which consisted of course with myself, my brother, my cousin, my sister and her boyfriend. I remember the first time I heard about Roscoe’s and hearing about chicken n waffles, I was thinking…”What the heck, serious?”…..This was way back in the day before I was a foodie like I am now, so I was kind of turned off at the thought of Roscoe’s but also as well very curious! Roscoe’s is located in Long Beach, but it does have a lot of different locations all over as well. The thing what I hate about this location, is the same reason why I hate LA…bet the first thought all you readers thought I was going to say was the traffic, don’t get me wrong the traffic is up there, but both the streets near Roscoe’s and LA have one way streets! I hate them with a passion!!! When you get near Roscoe’s, they have a designated parking lot, located just across the street that you can park in, for free! Just remember to look to your right(its one way)….but I bet you will look left anyway because well its a habit! When you first walk into the restaurant, you see a small little desk with the ladies that guide you to your seat unless there is a wait, which there always is during the weekends! To the right is an awesome bar, that usually has a live jazz band that plays in there. Awesome place to chill and get a drink as you wait to get seated to feast. Once you get called, you walk to the left side, and seriously…its like going into a new dimension. The middle waiting room is dark, with one little TV going on, and the moment you walk into the area you will be eating, the room has this like weird funky pink orange lighting to it, it was not a very good pairing for my camera! Inside the food area, usually always has a big party celebrating something, and most of the tables are filled up. When we were seated, we were greeted by our waitress, who was really nice and funny. She first takes your drink orders, and well we all tried their special drinks. Its seriously a most try! Three of us ordered the Sunset, which is a mixture of lemonade and fruit punch. Myself and Christian ordered the Eclipse, which was a mixture of Lemonade, Fruit Punch and Orange Juice. When the drinks arrived, seriously the eclipse had an amazing color to it, you can see each liquid through the cup. Give it a little stir, take a sip, and seriously what an amazing and refreshing beverage! I got so excited I ended up downing my cup! Our waitress came back and she was like “wow someone was thirsty” and when I asked her if they were free refills, she said they weren’t!!!! Being the awesome waitress she was, she gave me one for free =). After the drinks, is usually when you order your food, but before that here are some photos of what I just mentioned:
Truthfully I have never ordered anything else from Roscoe’s besides the chicken N waffles. Without a doubt, I am sure their other food they offer is just as amazing, but I mean if you are here at Roscoe’s you have to get chicken and waffles! I believe all of us ordered the number 4 which is half chicken covered with gravy, and two waffles! It is very highly recommended you order the gravy be placed on the side, just for the fact your chicken will stay nice and crunchy. You also get the choice of white meat, dark meat, or mixed. When the food arrives, seriously just looks so delicious, you don’t want to eat it! A giant two stacked waffle with two butters and two syrup Yummmm!! Then you see you chicken, just by looking at it, you can see it has a crunchy outside! Nice dark brown crust. and really big portions! Another high recommendation, as you all know I do not do to well with heat and spice, but mix the Red Rooster Hot Sauce into your bowl of gravy, it seriously gives it an amazing kick! When you attack the chicken in front of you, you can see that it has a lot of meat on it! Take your piece, dip it into the gravy, open wide, and freaking enjoy! The seasoning from the crust of the chicken is really tasty, as well as the meat from the chicken which is also no where dry. The main star is seriously the gravy, the chicken and gravy mixed together, is like heaven in your mouth! It becomes very addicting to eat, that you go into a eating frenzy zone, and next thing you know you have eaten all your chicken already! Seriously!! You’ll find yourself hoping says the magic word….no not please…but….”Ahhh Im Full Anyone Want My Chicken?” Then there is the waffle, first things first, spread that butter, pour that syrup. Cut into appropriate sizes, and enjoy! The waffle is nice and soft, very enjoyable, but that waffle is the key to you getting full fast! Just when you though you have tasted everything, here is you final test! First take you fork, grab a piece of chicken meat, dip it with a little bit of the gravy, poke your waffle, and feast! It may sound gross, but sweet and savory! It is actually really good, the sweetness from the syrup from the waffle, and savory from the chicken, the waffle pretty much added the texture of bread pretty much. It just feels like your eating an amazing chicken sandwich! Here are the photos of the yummy chicken n waffles!:
Ssp’s Final Thoughts:
Roscoe’s Chicken N Waffles, is seriously an awesome experiment taste bud wise! Don’t let the Chicken N Waffles scare you, because it is an amazing pairing. Don’t forget about my highly recommendations which were:
- Try their special drinks like Sunset(Lemonade And Fruit Punch) or the Eclipse(Lemonade, Fruit Punch and Orange Juice)
- Order the grave on the side
- Add Red rooster hot sauce into your gravy bowl
- Try a forkful with chicken, gravy and waffle all in one bite
I know I will be coming here whenever I have the craving for it, and again trust me Roscoe’s can easily be something you can crave pretty much either every day or every week. Amazing servers and waitresses, all of them are really funny, very knowledgeble about the food they offer, and all of them provide above and beyond customer service…at least all the times I have been there. I hope you all enjoyed my food venture to Roscoe’s house of Chicken N Waffles! Feast well!
