Bread Crumb Ohana Cafe! If any of you don’t know by now, I am a sucker for breakfast food! Considering my work consists sometimes of two shifts, one being in the morning and sometimes I started at 11am or 12pm. So the days I actually don’t have to go in at the morning, I am always up to look for a place to eat breakfast! This has been on my want to go list for a while. I had it all planned out, myself and my best friend Tristan, we could ride there. Sadly I doubt we would have that much time. Ohana Cafe is located in a shopping center, hidden all the way in the corner. It was a nice day outside so sitting outside was the best bet. Tristan and well myself at times, enjoyed sitting outside, well for all the guys Ohana Cafe is surrounded by a manicure and also a tanning business. So as I told to Tristan, we aren’t just feeding our stomachs, but are eyes are getting a treat as well =P. Huge reminder CASH ONLY!!!
When you first arrive, you are greeted and welcomed by the server, and as well asked if you would like to sit inside or outside. Of course like I said earlier we ended up sitting outside, so sorry on my behalf that I can’t really describe how the restaurant looked inside. When I ordered my usual cup of water, I love restaurants that serve water in jars, I just find it fascinating, no need to judge =). Also loved that they had the syrup, in a squeeze bottle! Just those small little add on’s really make a restaurant something to remember, seriously! Before I get to the food, here are some pictures of what I have mentioned above:
I shall start off with what Tristan ordered, he usually can eat whatever besides sea food, so when I told him what most people have recommended on reviews and what not, being the Loco Moco was the most spoken dish on a lot of reviews he decided to go with that. The Loco Moco, was pretty much rice, topped with your choice of I believe it was either Ham, portuguese sausage, or spam. On top of that is two eggs, and then topped off with their own gravy. Tristan went with over easy eggs, plus spam. When it first came out, it looked delicious…I mean come on I am Filipino, so anything on top of rice, then covered with any kind of soup base, it is like instantly tempting to just dig my whole hand into the dish and just eat! So I made sure to contain myself, because I mean thats rude =P. Usually Tristan is uber hungry and doesn’t share, but he knows the business I run, so I had my share of one spoonful of rice, with the gravy and spam. It was really good, but it was at the same time missing something, and he agreed as well. It was really hard for me to try to think what it was missing considering it wasn’t my dish, but don’t get me wrong it is still really good. It is a huge portion also, I was actually surprised that Tristan didn’t finish all of it. He had a really good point though, about it being an excellent left over dish when he gets hungry later on during the day, and I totally agree.
I ended up going with the Tropical Special, which came with two eggs, two sausage patties, hash browns and their Hawaiian Bread French Toast. When the waitress came with my food, I seriously felt like a fat kid! I mean two plates, both plates covered with food, it was heaven! The french toast, were jaw dropping because of the size, and seriously it looked like two steaks!!!! I usually always eat the french toast last, so to start off with my first dish, my eggs were cooked to my preference, over hard. Added my salt and pepper, delicious! I also ordered my hash browns to have a crunchy exterior, and that as well was made on point! Super crunchy, and soft inside oh man it was really good, I was very satisfied at both requests being honored! The sausage patties, tasted like how they usually would taste, nothing too special there. But on the real, the eggs and hash browns hands down might be my favorite from Ohana Cafe, just for the fact it was cooked how I love it, and tasted amazing…ahhh please excuse me as I wipe the drool from my mouth just thinking about it! Once I finished that plate, I looked over and smiled as I was about to feast on the french toast! First spread my butter on the toast, grabbed the squeezie, and zig-zag all over the toast! The first taste was mainly the crust of the bread, which was different, because of course there isn’t much flavor as the crust cant absorb that well as the dough does. So the second bite, was where it was all at! Simply amazing, it was like biting onto a french toast book! So many chapters of flavors, introduction powdered sugar, chapter 1 syrup mixed with the intro, chapter 2 butter mixed with chapter 1 and intro, chapter 3 hint of egg and dough mixed with everything previously mentioned, lastly final chapter…heaven! The final chapter is when the whole book ties together, and you realize this is a pretty damn good dish! Being two plates brought to you, this was seriously the perfect amount, for me at least. I felt satisfied and not struggling to breath for air! Definitely a must try!
Here is a bonus picture, this is what both Tristan and myself were seeing at our tables, a huge plus that when you request for hot sauce, they bring out all three! You got you tapatio, cholula and also tabasco, most places just carry one of the three, but they brought all three! Huge plus!
